I am a product of being immersed in the values of my grandparents who have been the cornerstone of who I have become. I am a young south Auckland wahine raised in Manurewa during the times of struggle and challenge. I am absolutely fortunate to have had the nurturing and guidance of my grandparents who have shaped the person I am today. My journey in Puutake Te Wahanga Māori, James Cook High School under the tutorship of the late Hori Pomana and the inspiring teachers I had during this time have weaved their skills and knowledge that have motivated me to wanting to help our young Maori leaders and guide them even though society says that there is no hope. Matua Hori Pomana was certainly an inspiration in shaping the way a view and think about the world we live in and that it was up to me, us to make better decision for our future mokopuna. My kapa haka experience taught by this mentor has contributed to my knowledge base and has allowed for me to be face to face with these leaders and to assist them in making better decisions in their pathways through the art of this taonga called kapa haka. My connection with the Auckland council and working for the Mangere leisure centre has also supported my passion for this to occur. My experience here at the leisure centre has grown my confidence even more in connecting with our younger people in supporting themselves and their families around water safety. I really enjoy having this connection.
I am a proud Māori, Tahitian, Cook Island Tongan women who has stayed in touch with all of these connections and still learning the tikanga and laws that comes with it.
All of these values are imprinted in me and help guide me in a daily basis and my passion allows me to be resilient and committed to ensuring that I focus on fulfilling my goals, dreams and aspirations.
Kia tau te mauri ki taku manawa ki te hora te korowai manaaki ki runga ki te hunga o apopo!
