During this period, I completed the following clinical rotations:

• Community Alcohol and Drugs Run – Gained experience in managing patients with substance use disorders, focusing on detoxification protocols, harm reduction strategies, and community support systems.
• Vascular Surgery – Involved in the perioperative and post operative management of patients with complex vascular conditions including peripheral arterial disease, aneurysms, and diabetic foot ulcers.
• ENT (Otolaryngology) – Participated in the management of patients with ear, nose, and throat conditions, assisting with inpatient care, including pre-operative assessments and post-operative reviews.
• Paediatrics Medicine – Participated in the care of paediatric inpatients , including ward rounds, acute assessments, discharge planning, and family-centred communication.
• Medical Relief (Med Rel) – Provided cross-cover for multiple medical specialties including:
  General Medicine
  Cardiology
  Neurology
  Respiratory
  Renal
  Medical Oncology
  Haematology

During my time as a PGY1 House Officer, I completed a broad range of clinical attachments across medical and surgical specialties, including:

• General Medicine – Managed acute and chronic medical conditions; participated in ward rounds, diagnostic workups, and discharge planning.
• General Surgery – Assisted in pre- and post-operative care, emergency surgical admissions and discharge planning
• Renal Medicine – Involved in the management of patients with acute kidney injury, chronic kidney disease, and dialysis requirements.

• Urgent care clinics and general practice - completing clinical triage, taking a relevant medical history, checking vitals, and documenting physical observations
• Answering clinical inquiries over the phone
• Provided support for COVID-19 patients throughout the Waikato region as part of the Community COVID Response Unit
• During my time at Tui Medical, I had the chance to observe doctors demonstrate referral processes to secondary services through BPAC, CWS-GP access and New Zealand Formulary
• During this time, I understand the expectations people have of the healthcare system and also some of the problems people face regarding access to healthcare in New Zealand.

• Screen ED patients for covid symptoms and send them to red zone or yellow zone respectively.

• Record patient details , take a relevant medical history and screen for covid symptoms
• Vaccinate patients under supervision.

• Prepare samples for testing under supervision.

• Provided patient care under the supervision of senior doctors, my duties as an intern included admitting patients, participating in inpatient ward rounds and outpatient clinics, keeping clinical records, assisting in surgeries and procedures
• Rotation included Internal medicine for 16 weeks, Surgery for 16weeks, Gynecology& Obstetrics for 4 weeks, Pediatrics for 4 weeks, neurology for 2 weeks, Ophthalmology for 2 weeks, Dermatology for 2 weeks and Otolaryngology for 2 weeks.
