Teacher Philosophy

I believe that as a kaiako, when a family walks through the gate into the centre, they should be warmly greeted and feel part of the centre community.  Parents can be assured that their child/ren's cultural values and beliefs will be nurtured and respected.

My values of openness, trust, aroha, sociability, identity, self-confidence, nurture, and connection.

By having an approachable personality, families will feel comfortable and confident that they can talk freely about concerns and aspirations for their child at centre, at home, and in broader community relationships.

I am committed to ensuring and providing a safe, inclusive bicultural curriculum for all children in our ever-changing world where the well-being of children's futures is at the heart and forefront of my daily practices-valuing all children's cultures by using and role modelling the use of th reo, tikanga and kaupapa māori theory of Te Whare tapu Whā, various other bicultural practices, and Kaititakitanga. To commit, honour, embrace, and weave te Tiriti o Waitangi authentically throughout curriculum practices. Every child's culture and whakapapa are uniquely acknowledged and celebrated through Teu le vā fealoa'i. Ensuring all children are respected nurtured, and supported for being themselves.

Their language and cultures are all taonga (treasure), where they can learn and grow to be proud of who they are, where children learn to accept each other's culture, diversity, and make up.  In hopes that children's positive inclusiveness spread into the community like the roots of a tree, where citizens of our communities will treat each other with respect as equals no matter gender, race, culture, or family form.

With my professional Kaiako knowledge, each child will move through their first five or six years, where they are guided and nurtured by compassion, trust and love in a calm, caring environment with a united partnership with their whanāu built on reciprocated, trusting, caring, respected, supported and valued members of the diverse centre community. It is the foundation for supporting children in their learning.

I believe authentic Manaakitanga, should be practiced and weaved daily and each child should be at the heart of everything. through fun, positive, encouraging support and role modelling, children will learn to be capable, optimistic, and empowered learners to gain and feel a connection to value the natural environment and how to live sustainably. While learning and exploring, children will gain a sense of belonging as individuals and part of a community where the contribute.

I believe that everyone is created unique and equal.  Through my inclusive practice, children will feel self-assured to express themselves and their interests through conversation, play and creativity.  Providing a supportive environment with various materials for children to explore, create, learn, and play. Children's curious and inquisitive thirst for learning is a gift, each child predictable group time cantered around the tamariki's interest in extending their understanding of the world around them through multiple literacy and numeracy activities that are exciting, expressive, encouraging and fun. Children will feel they are essential members of the centre and have equal opportunities to be encouraged through Whakamana to communicate and contribute their thought's and ideas, where they know, they are listened to and valued. They are supported and encouraged to become confident learners for their present and future learning.
