Alan trained in Shaolin Iron Palm Kung Fu Martial Arts for 13 years achieving the rank of Black Belt in December 2015 and, 2nd Dan Black Belt in December 2017.
Alan enjoyed soccer as a young boy right up before his mission, and played age-grade representative soccer for Franklin Districts in Counties Manukau , and was selected for NZ Probables Team at age 15. Alan played all his soccer with Papatoetoe AFC Football club.
Alan is an active member of his church, The church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and was called to serve in two separate terms as a Bishop, serving from 1993 to 1999 and again 2014 to 2020.
Alan continued his role as an Insurance Agent/Broker and Financial Adviser as the church he attends has a lay ministry, where everyone serves voluntarily. The average hours a Bishop puts in on a weekly basis is 15-25 hours per week.
