My name is Taniela but everyone calls me Nela. I moved back to New Zealand after spending a year in Australia, where I worked as a disability support worker in the mental health sector, providing care and support to both youth and adults. Prior to my time in Australia, I served as a Police Officer with the New Zealand Police for 8 years.   • Monitoring the client’s physical and mental health by doing routine checks, such as administering prescriptions, measuring blood pressure, and assisting with personal cleanliness.

  • Providing pro social support to individuals affiliated in Gangs helping them to be more proactive members of society and causing them to be less likely to re-offend.
  • Liaising with external agencies linking them with those affiliated in gangs to offer support such as drivers licensing, employment, drug & alcohol rehabilitation, anger management class.
  • Educating/presenting to new Police graduates and area leadership teams our pilot work group and our prevention focused mindset on gangs in New Zealand.
  • Collating and recording all our work in a secure database separate from most Police use.

  • Managing a case load of 40 individuals (male & female) placed on the Child Sex Offender Register.
  • Making sure the registered person complied with the conditions of the Child Protection (Child Sex Offender Government Agency Registration) Act 2016.
  • Weekly/monthly visits with the registered person completing risk assessments on them determining their safety and the safety of the community.
  • Assisting the registered person with finding employment or enroll them in courses that would lead to employment.
  • Referrals made for Anger management classes, drug & alcohol rehabilitation or any external stakeholders appropriate for the registered persons and the help they need.
  • Recording all correspondence in the secure Child Sex Offender Data base separate from the National Intelligence Application Police use.
