Summary

Proven expertise in indigenous issues, Te Tiriti o Waitangi and expanding area of knowledges concerned with settler history, education, justice, healing frameworks and critical thinking in Aotearoa New Zealand. These expertise have grown and continue to be developed overtime, in my roles within Massey University and Te Atakura Educators, and most importantly, in the roles and responsibilities I have to my communities at home, the strategic development of our people, and the obligations we have to Papatuanuku (mother earth), her surrounding oceans/waterways and the lives within.

  • Assists in the development, training and contribution of evidenced base teaching concerning Te Tiriti o Waitangi / the Treaty of Waitangi
  • Assists in the delivery of workshops that aims to empower the hearts and minds of Aotearoa citizenry through applying conscientized practice.
  • Aims to increase critical mass, particularly in relation to building meaningful and transformed relationships with Māori / indigenous communities, on the basis of Te Tiriti o Waitangi.
  • Encouraging and celebrating the art of anti-racism praxis for non-Māori allies.
  • A member of a wider network (Te Atakura educators) that teaches about te Tiriti o Waitangi, and increasingly advocates for constitutional transformation in Aotearoa New Zealand.

Collaborating with an interdisciplinary team to assist in the Te Tiriti Capability Development goals and aspirations of the universitity. Te Tiriti o Waitangi is the teina document Māori signed with British settlers here in Aotearoa in 1840, that then allowed British citizenship with our nations. Massey University aspires to be Te Tiriti-led, and a part of our team's role is to assist in the implementation of those aspirations.

  • Collaborated with whanau, hapu and iwi to develop and execute strategic initiatives aligned with the health, wellbeing and restoration of the environment, seas, natural waterways, and the lives within.
  • Alongside our people/community, developed a biodiversity strategy that will assist in the native restoration of our maunga (mountain), Titirangi. This is an on-going project.
  • Engaged in continuous consultation and engagement processes with community members to ensure that our collective dreams and visions were heard in the writing and advocacy of our strategic outcomes.

  • Oversaw the care, teaching and empowerment and learning of children under the age of 5 yrs.
  • Background info: Kohanga Reo are services licensed by the Ministry of Education, yet driven and managed by Māori, as an early childhood education and care centre where all education and instruction is delivered in te reo Māori only (the Māori language), Māori philosophies and epistemologies.
