Thomas Charles Scott

Currently in my final year at the school of surveying at the University of Otago and am now looking for the opportunity to put some of the theories I have learnt into practice during the upcoming summer holidays and in my future graduate roles.

I am an outgoing person who enjoys the company of others. I am highly motivated and can work either independently or in a team to achieve an outcome. I enjoy working hard to achieve results for others, gaining immense satisfaction from assisting them to meet their goals. I am wanting to work for an organisation that will provide me with the chance to further develop my surveying skills and enable me to grow and develop as a surveyor and person with gaining future certifications or professional licenses. Surveying interests me as a career choice due to the diversity of work and the potential of opportunities it offers. The ability to work in both indoor and outdoor environments, and the scope for travelling both domestically and internationally, appeal greatly to me.

• 2019 awarded "Man of the Tour" when playing rugby in America and Canada touring with a group of 45 young men
• Played representive touch from u11-open men's level, captaining the school team at nationals
• 2021, Otago University First year pre-surveying school entry. I attained the grades required to be accepted in surveying school full-time for 2022.

• Touch Canterbury representative from 2011-2020, attending nationals and South Island tournaments
• Senior player and leader in CBHS school touch team (represented at nationals for four years).
• I have been a rugby captain for Merivale Papanui multiple times.
• Managing surveying jobs for Survey Group and working independently on multiple sites

• 2016, 2020, Commodore Hotel, Working in the restaurant, bar and conference rooms. At times I was responsible for hosting events in the conference rooms, accountable for looking after the guests and ensuring their night was a success.
• 2016, 2020, North Hagley Touch Competition, Touch Rugby Referee at High School Old Boys touch module, referring all grades and ages.
• 2022, 2023, RPS Mackay, 2 years ago I had an internship working for a surveying and engineering firm RPS in Mackay, Australia. I was given the position as a survey assistant. I worked for a total of 570 hours and became very familiar with the work I was given. Overall my experience working as a survey assistant was great and I am excited to take the knowledge I learnt to my future jobs.
• 2023, 2024, Paterson Pitts Group, The subsequent summer I worked for a surveying, engineering, and planning company in Christchurch where I gained further practical knowledge of surveying. Majority of works completed consisted of cadastral work including set outs, boundary reinstatements, boundary pegging, subdivisions, control surveys, and numerous topographical surveys.
