Work History

Sales/Operations/Project Manager/H&S

TPL Access Ltd
08.2021 - Current
  • TPL Access were a client of mine at AIS, I was headhunted by the director.
  • There was no end to Covid-19 on the horizon and it was unlikely the borders were going to re-open any time soon so I made the decision to return to my scaffolding trade roots.
  • Initially employed part time as a BDM, I became the Operations Manager a few months later, and later that year was promoted to the position of Branch Manager / GM. When the company moved premises from Onehunga to Silverdale, I elected to step back as the Branch Manager and focus on Sales, Project Management & H&S. This was because I live ~75km south of Silverdale and being present for the hours required in that role would have meant spending very little time with my family.
  • Achievements:
  • 2 of my projects were awarded the best scaffolding projects in NZ in their respective categories at the annual SARNZ Awards in 2024:
  • Commercial $0-$50k Category Winner – NZ Maritime Museum Hanging Cantilevered Scaffold.
  • Industrial $200k+ Category Winner – Ports of Auckland Bledisloe Wharf Special Hanging Platform.
  • Quoted, Won & Managed more than 300 scaffolding projects.

Regional Manager

Accurate Infrastructure Solutions Ltd (AIS)
03.2020 - 12.2021
  • Initially employed to manage 360 bulk recruitment campaigns to provide a pathway for both companies and skilled Filipino Nationals to come to NZ. Expected recruitment levels were in the vicinity of 150-300 candidates placed into NZ per annum. My role also encompassed management of Offshore Support / Technical Contractors working from the Philippines back to NZ in capacities such as Quantity Surveying, Drafting / Detailing and Virtual Assistants.
  • My first day at AIS coincided with the first day that NZ went into the first Covid-19 lockdown, with that came border closures along with the Manila Office where technical staff worked from closing and remaining closed.
  • As the initial role no longer existed, I have covered multiple positions including H&S Management, Account Management, New Business Development and since April 2021 I have managed AIS’ apprenticeship scheme. I currently manage 10 construction apprentices and have further vacancies for another 20, I also manage 5 Scaffolders, 3 Welder/ Fabricators and 2 concreters.
  • I was responsible for managing all stakeholder relationships and business development associated with these roles.
  • When I left AIS to join TPL Access, I continued contracting back to AIS 2 days pw completing H&S Site inspections, H&S Prequalifications (SiteWise, Impac Prequal, ISN) & incident investigations.
  • Achievements:
  • Achieved SiteWise Green Status for AIS, according to Sitesafe AIS were the first Labour-Only Contractor to achieve this.
  • Ongoing recruitment and onboarding of apprentices. The metrics around recruiting young, inexperienced local candidates are a success rate of circa 25% from initial screening and interview to placement. Essentially to hire 10 apprentices I have screened and interviewed 40 candidates. While the margins associated with apprenticeship programs are lower than tradesmen, it’s very rewarding be in a position to provide opportunities to candidates who have had limited prospects to this point.

Recruitment Manager

Infrastructure Contracting Ltd
05.2019 - 03.2020
  • Restructured H&S, HR, Client and Staff Management Systems to ensure legislative compliance.
  • Recruited site based staff for large scale Asbestos Removal and Demolition Projects Auckland wide.
  • Operational responsibility for approx.. 100 site based staff.
  • Achievements:
  • Successfully bid for and was awarded a supply contract for the largest Asbestos Removal and Demolition project in Auckland at the time. Recruited and oversaw training of roughly 70 staff for this project.
  • Established recruitment relationships with the Department of Corrections and a number of Community Based Organisations to fulfil staffing requirements while achieving a high level of social responsibility. As of early 2020 I was the largest employer of ex-corrections candidates in Auckland.
  • Achieved company compliance in relation to H&S & HR Management Systems by implementing new policies & procedures that lowered the company’s fine liability from circa $1.6m down to circa $200k (the final $200k liability an unwillingness from the director to work towards complete compliance was my reason for leaving)
