Community Experience

  • Thursdays in Black UoA, Auckland, New Zealand, Aug 2022, Present, From November 2022 to June 2023, I was a General Member of the executive team. Now that I am no longer at university, I continue to support the Thursdays in Black movement. I helped set up weekly stalls at the UoA quad by manning the stall, decorating it in merchandise and information sheets as well as advocating and having conversations with students who passed the stall. I advocated for the cause by being dressed in black every Thursday and sharing this message on social media. I attended weekly executive meetings where we would support each other and brainstorm ideas for the stall as well as plan events for the future. I helped pitch event ideas and reach out to organisations who could help with events so we could get funding.
  • Frank Hilton Organisation, Suva, Fiji, Jan 2019, Jan 2019, I took on This full-time volunteer position while on break from university in Fiji. Most of the children I met had cerebral palsy; it was a wonderful experience learning from them and their physiotherapists and all the lovely staff who worked there. I provided administrative support to the office staff, such as data entry, filing, answering the phone, etc. I greeted and directed visitors and suppliers at the school's front office. I regularly wiped and tidied the children's playing area outside the school reception. I talked to and engaged with children with the out-of-school recreational activities.
