I have over seven years of experience in the youth care sector, during which I have undertaken extensive professional training, including Autism Spectrum training, Team Leader courses, Level 4 Youth Work Certification, FASD training, Family therapy training, Child Abuse awareness, CPI (Crisis Prevention Intervention) training, First Aid certification, and various seminars and cultural training such as Te Ao Māori.
Throughout my tenure, I have built strong, collaborative relationships with a wide range of stakeholders, including the Tamaki Placements Team, Oranga Tamariki National Office, Mana Mokopuna OPCAT Team, social workers, whānau, and the young people I support. These connections, alongside my training, have enabled me to provide effective, culturally responsive, and trauma-informed care, consistently prioritising the safety, wellbeing, and development of the youth in my care.
I currently manage the Kaitiaki Residential programme, delivering 24/7 emergency care for young people who are facing arrest in the community or experiencing placement breakdowns due to complex and unmanageable circumstances. The program operates across three residential homes, with the capacity to support up to 12 young people at any one time.
I lead a team of 33 staff, including a Team Lead, Youth Mentor, and three Senior Youth Workers. A key priority in my role is maintaining strong and effective relationships with Oranga Tamariki, and I have established positive rapport with National Office, Tāmaki placement coordinators, and social workers.
The service responds to a wide range of complex and high-risk challenges; however, I strongly believe that with the right structure, training, leadership, and staff attitude, we can consistently provide safe, responsive, and high-quality care to some of our most vulnerable young people.
My skills are grounded in the values that are most important to me Integrity—maintaining the integrity of my role and the organisation at all times Honesty—being direct and transparent with people, as this is the most effective way to achieve positive outcomes, regardless of how the message is received Respect—upholding respect in my work, and in all relationships with stakeholders and professionals
Throughout my seven-year tenure in the youth care sector, I have developed strong capabilities in staff leadership and management, providing therapeutic support to families, and effectively de-escalating and supporting young people across the autism spectrum with a range of additional disabilities
