Summary

Started off working life taking on any job I could get my hands on throughout school and during the school holidays. Then took on full time career as a surveyor for a local firm. A lot of the jobs referred to in this CV, especially surveying, involved extensive learning which I took on the challenge of everyday. Surveying is a detail-oriented job which demands a strong work ethic; both of which attributes I believe can be channeled through to other companies.

Land Survey Technician

Survus Consultants
12.2021 - Current

During my time at Survus Consultants I have Completed many different Cadastral, Engineering and Topographical Surveys throughout the Canterbury region. These jobs included...

  • Cadastral Surveys: Undergoing Cadastral surveys start out by researching boundary information and then using trigonometry, Geometry and Algebra along with surveying software to accurately calculate where the existing and new boundaries of properties. Then go to site and use surveying technology and instruments to place boundary pegs, where the pre-calculated positions are on the land parcel. then back in the office I would process the data, using Survey software and CAD. Jobs of this kind are can be on small city blocks or large rural farms in the hills around Canterbury , so big hours are often necessary.
  • Engineering Surveys: Beginning engineering surveys involves liaising with Architects, project managers and civil engineers about the job and understanding the requirements, I would then complete either Building set-out calculations in relation to Cadastral boundaries or calculate the positions of services, kerbs and roading (depending on if it is an architectural or civil job). Using this data i would accurately set-out Large to small buildings and/or the location of services, kerbs or roading for the client. jobs of this kind involve particular accuracy to height and horizontal measurements E.G the measurements i make are ensuring buildings don't breach recession planes and the gradient of a kerb is directing water flow downhill gradually.
  • Topographical surveys: These surveys are important in the design phase of different types of projects. Jobs for architects involve measuring existing buildings accurately so that architects can design renovations that fit seamlessly in with the existing structure, and then drawing up clear diagrams using CAD. Topographical surveys also include measuring features on a property that are already existing, such as services, ground heights, buildings and fences to help clients decide how they want to subdivide their farm the most cost efficient or so that civil companies know how much earth they have to move, to build their subdivisions.
