  • Student leader at the Massey University desexing clinic
  • Tasks include organising students who are volunteering that weekend, running the day, setting up/setting down all equipment, giving talks on how tasks are run, teaching new students how to draw up and administer medication, talking to clients, and any paperwork that is involved

  • Company Overview: Rainforest Awareness Rescue Education Center
  • Volunteer Veterinary Student at RAREC (Rainforest Awareness Rescue Education Center), located in the Amazon of Northern Peru
  • This was a very remote clinic with few resources
  • My main tasks revolved around the vet clinic while also helping with husbandry practices
  • Tasks in the vet clinic ranged from administering daily medications, treating large wounds, sedations and health checks
  • We would go into local villages and carry out health checks on pets while providing worm and flea treatments
  • I worked with monkeys, manatees, sloths, dogs/cats, ocelots, anteaters, owls and many more

  • Relief milker on a 1200-head rotary dairy farm
  • Worked full time for two weeks over the calving period, where up to 60 calves were being born each day
  • Tasks included, collecting calves from paddock, feeding, treating ill claves, cleaning equipment and yards, ear tagging, dis-budding, vaccinations

  • Volunteer veterinary internship at a wildlife rescue centre in Costa Rica, Central America
  • This involved working alongside the veterinarians at the clinic which was based onsite at the rescue centre
  • Tasks included basic husbandry, treating sick/injured animals, administering medication, sampling for laboratory tests, relocating animals and scrubbing in for surgical procedures
  • I was able to work with large birds, monkeys, turtles, snakes, iguanas and much more
