At NHG gymnastics club I was able to effectively carry out my role as a youth coach due to my technical knowledge stemming from personal experience as an athlete as well as youth coach education courses I have completed, such as Xtend and youth coach connect. My almost 5 years of coaching experience have allowed me to develop my interpersonal skills through communicating with both athletes and parents alike. As well as understanding the value of a safe space for athletes to learn and develop.
My role as a coach required me to encourage and guide the development of youth athletes while promoting interest and enjoyment of the sport. I was able to providing technical insight into the skills being progressed so that athlete are safe and comfortable. This required me to be able to effectively communicate to both groups of up to 16 athletes as well as to individuals. The unique needs of each athlete encouraged me to find different and innovative ways to communicate ideas so that they can be best understood by the individual.
Health and safety was another crucial component of my role as a coach and required me to maintain safety within the gym by checking that the equipment was appropriately placed, covering all hazards and ensuring safety before each day of classes.
I was able to represent New Zealand in the 2024 Australia national gymnastics championships for tumbling.
