In traffic management, our team of usually four would set up sites for our construction crews in the middle, ensuring safety for civilians, traffic, and our construction crew. Our sites would vary from slips, drainage, crack sealing, or resealing the roads, fixing, cleaning guardrails, etc. Regardless of the situation, we ensure safety for everyone on site.
Each crew has four people with really important roles. First off, our leader of the crew is known as the STMS. Her role is to create a safe path for the TCs to set up the site, make sure our site is a safe site, ensure our team isn't fatigued, and communicate with everyone on the site.
The second role is the Pilot Driver. This role is most likely the most dangerous role. The pilot driver shadows the sign truck well, as we are setting up the site. His or her job varies from safely reducing the speed of ongoing traffic while the site is being set up, calling out blind corners for the STMS, and making everything easier, quicker, and safer for the crew.
Lastly, the people who actually set up the site are known as TC's. TC's set up the site from the back of the sign truck, which our STMS is driving. We need to make sure we are harnessed to the truck, so we have maximum safety. This role puts up caution signs that vary from workman signs, traffic light signs, paddle signs, and speed signs. Setting up these signs slows down the traffic and makes the job really easy for the construction crews.
