From the 14th of October 2024 to the 11th of November, I had the opportunity to join the facilities Team under Gary Alsop. These 4 weeks allowed me to see what a day in the life of a facilities leader was like during one of the busiest times of the year, preparing for Summer and the opening of the paddling pools. During this time, I did a variety of jobs which allowed me to travel all over the city.
Re-painting the Templeton pools buildings, Toddlers pool and general maintenance. Recoating Jellie Park’s outdoor hydro slide splash pool. Painting Governors Bay Pool.
Cleaning and Water blasting all the Paddling pools as well as Haswell. helping with the cleaning the Balance tanks to the pools
Testing, dosing and backwashing the New Brighton and Scarborough Pools at the start of the summer season.

My previous role was Full-time Aquatic Supervisor. I have been given multiple duties to perform within my regular Supervisor duties. One of these duties is that I am the Health and Safety Rep for Aquatics at TQEII. This requires me to monitor, assess, minimize, and conduct minor repairs (within my knowledge and my Direct manager’s permissions) or report it to the correct personnel responsible. I also update and maintain specific spreadsheets, as well as documents and make orders such as Aqua Care and first aid supplies, we may need. I’m also in charge of water quality as well as plant room maintenance at Taiora QEII.

I worked as a lifeguard full-time. I worked hard and completed any of the jobs given to me by my Supervisors and Team Leader to the best of my ability. This allowed me to gain the knowledge to become a supervisor. I kept my relationships with my fellow work colleagues professional. Sumner surf life saving club., Life Guard, Christchurch, New Zealand, 2014-11, Present, In the summer of 2014-15, I worked over 50 hours as a volunteer lifeguard. Since then I have done an average of 30 hours each summer. at the end of the summer season of 2017-18 I Was awarded Lifeguard of the year for my club and went on to the Canterbury Lifeguard awards. During then I also did a total of 96 volunteer hours., Lifeguard instructor and examiner., IRB Driver Instructor, Patrol Captain and Patrol Captain Support, Head Lifeguard and IRB Driver Refresher for Sumner Surf Lifesaving club.
PERSONAL STATEMENT
Ever since I was young, I have loved the aquatic environment, whether that be the ocean or the pools. Being a caring person with a willingness to learn, I enjoy getting into the thick of it. I like a good challenge and do my best to make sure the job or task is completed on time and to the best of my ability. If I were to get this Role it would allow me to further expand my knowledge and hopefully someday pass it on to others.
