I enjoy working with people from across the lifespan, as a nurse I am always looking at the bigger picture and understanding the complexities and the unique individual difference's in peoples lives.
I have a natural affinity to relate to children and the more elderly alike, I believe that children look at the world in a different way and by getting down to their level, listening and responding to them is fundamental as a key to understanding them and ultimately understanding ourselves better.
Furthermore through an understanding of cultural safety I now have a deeper insight into my own Maori culture in connection with the healthcare system.
I recognise that communication based on knowledge is vital to providing education to the patient while building trust with the patient and being mindful of the nurse-patient power balance. Because without that trust, therapeutic nursing cannot take place and this is essential if we are to empower the patient and deliver holistic healthcare.
I love working as a registered nurse and I value working together in a team within a supportive environment under good leadership. I believe good time management and organisational skills will ensure smooth running of a shift and allows me to also be a support to my colleagues.
