• ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  AS A CIRCULATING NURSE
  -Checks operating room, materials, and equipment for proper care and handling.
  - Work toward to create and maintain a safe and comfortable environment for surgery.
  -Assembles the type and quantity of materials, sterile packs and special equipment needed for day's procedures and possible emergencies, and ensuring they are available in the OR.
  - participates and documents " Sign In , Time Out, Sign out " along with the surgical team.
  -Performs counts with the scrub nurse as per policy.
  - Patient positioning an preparation according to standard policies to promote patient safety and comfort during surgical procedure.
  - Provides accurate care and handling of specimen as directed by policies and procedures.
  - Documents pertinent data and observations related to the operation throughout the intra-operative phase.
  -Accompanies patient to PACU or ICU/ward and does a complete handover to the receiving nurse to ensure continuity of care.
  
  AS A SCRUB NURSE
  -Ensures all required equipment, trays, instruments and other supplies needed for the procedures are available in the Operating Room before scrubbing for the case.
  -Follow aseptic techniques when handling instruments and maintains sterile field throughout the procedure.
  -Performs counts on all the accountable items along with Circulating Nurse as per policy.
  -Assist the surgeon in preparing and draping the patient and during the procedure. Anticipates the needs of the surgeon by monitoring the progress of the surgery.
  -Wipes instrument with wet sponge during the surgery so that the instruments are clean from blood and debris.
  -Ensures completeness of instruments in the tray before sending to CSSD. Sends instruments to CSSD together with the checklist, names of the Circulating nurse and Scrub nurse.
  -Manages contaminated instruments and supplies as per policies during operation procedure to prevent spread of infection.
  
  AS A PACU NURSE.
  -Provides immediate post-op care to patients following surgery.
  -Monitor patients’s vital signs and other parameters based on the anesthesia received as per policies and procedure
  -Assess patient and intervenes as needed.
  -Documents pertinent data and observations related to the post-op care in the PACU documentation.
  -Follows post anesthesia Modified Aldrete scoring system to document patient recovery from anesthesia and seek approval from Anesthesiologist to discharge patient with his signature.
  
  AS A TEAM LEADER.
  -Establishes and utilizes checklist to monitor the physical plan of the OR and equipment ensuring patient and team safety.
  -Coordinates and communicates with OR team leader for special equipment management needed for daily procedures and emergencies.
  -Consults with operating surgeon and manages appoinments for surgery based on electives, speciality and urgencies. Maintian open communication lines with inter and intra departmental team to provide utmost patient need.
  -Maintains adequate records and cases scheduled, cancelled and rebooked.
