2016.05 - 2019.05
  • The project is entitled In vitro and in vivo
studies of Simarouba glauca, plant extract/fraction/ pure compound as a potential adjuvant for breast
    cancer chemotherapy.
  • Conducted research on plant components in different solvents and screened the fractions for antioxidant and anticancer properties in different cell lines like MCF-7, MDA-MB-231, 4T1, EAC, T47D, etc.
  • Soxhlet for extraction and TLC, Column chromatography, and HPLC for fractionation. Callus culture has been done for secondary metabolite isolation and regeneration. Antibacterial properties of Simarouba, MIC determination, and SEM analysis.
  • Breast Cancer model studies on Swiss albino mice.
  • Docking studies using Maestro software were done. Research Grant – Cochin University of Science and Technology, PDF.

YOUNG SCIENTIST

MAHATMA GANDHI UNIVERSITY
Https://sbs.mgu.ac.in/prakash-kumar-b/ , Kottayam, India
2013.06 - 2014.06
  • Identification of immunomodulatory bioactive molecules from medicinal plants (Rubia cordifolia L.,Tylophora indica, Piper longum) at M.G. University, Kottayam, Kerala.
  • In this project, screening of the crude and fractions of these three medicinal plants for Lipoxygenase (LOX -5 and LOX- 15) and Cycloxygenase (COX-1 and COX-2) markers for Inflammation. Rubia cordifolia L., Tylophora indica, and Piper longum were extracted in methanol using soxhlet and done UV-Visible scanning, antioxidant studies, TLC, HPTLC, and
HPLC. All three plant methanol extracts are recommended as good inhibitors for COX and LOX. The research grant received is DST-SERB.
