My teaching philosophy is to provide children with an inclusive learning environment that supports bicultural practices and is respectful of all cultures. All cultures should be celebrated through practices such as songs, stories, dance, language and literacy, maths, science, and the arts. Fostering positive relationships with children and whanau, learning about cultural rituals and practices that may be important to children and families, and finding ways to be respectful in practice. Acknowledging important cultural events in celebration. From my past experiences as a child which have moulded my own beliefs as a teacher, I believe children are confident and competent learners who need the right guidance from their families, teachers, and community to help them navigate their understanding of this world. As teachers we should provide all children with rich learning opportunities that showcase and supports their interests and needs, to allow children to lead their learning through experiences and play. I believe children should have the freedom to express who they are and to have equal opportunities and access to learning. To be positive role models for children, and to advocate for children regardless of their gender, race, culture, or disability. I believe we should be working in collaboration with children, family and the community to find ways to work through the challenges and barriers that we all may face in early childhood.
