After teaching for several years in a French full immersion class at Richmond Road School, I have always kept a desire to use my native French again in my profession. Returning to teaching as a CRT and casual relief teacher after starting a family have helped me become a very adaptable educator. I am an enthusiastic teacher and passionate about supporting student's interests and achievements.
My position at Richmond Road School was a very unique, rewarding and exciting experience. I taught in French the contents of the NZ curriculum in a newly created Y0-2 class welcoming students of varying levels of fluency in their heritage language. I followed the wider school requirements in terms of planning, teaching, assessing and reporting by adapting existing resources across all curriculum subjects to the demands of the French language, regularly creating brand new materials to help support progress in any subject as well as develop the students' fluency in French. I guided students towards success in an attractive and stimulating environment, making them feel welcome, safe and part of a school whanau that valued cultural diversity. I explored and implemented innovative use of technology to create memorable learning activities. I routinely consulted with other teachers in the small French unit, but also collaborated teachers of other languages (English, Maori, Samoan) to help implement instructional strategies that promoted proficiency in the heritage language.
