Joined WMNZ as a graduate after completing university, the graduate program was focused on rotating me through various roles to gain a broad range of company and industry knowledge. Work included: using GIS software (MapInfo Pro) to create maps for rubbish truck drivers and providing support to the sales and the operation teams.
This was a summer and university holiday role based at the Five Star- beef feedlot located near Wakanui Beach, Ashburton. The role primarily involved driving the feed trucks which distribute the food to the cattle. Driving JCB’s and tractors to assist with feedlot operation. Drafting cattle and shifting them between pens. Identifying and treating sick/lame cattle. Assisting with the maintenance and upkeep of the Five Star Beef feedlot.
Role involved the running of after school programs for primary/intermediate aged children in a variety of sports. Also assisted with the coordination of school holiday programs.
Summer role over two university holidays based at the Midland Apiaries’ factory in Ashburton. Involved the operation of the extraction plant to separate the honey from the honey frames. Honey varieties extracted included manuka, brassica, carrot, and clover. Assisted with the planting of manuka trees on various farms. Helped beekeepers with the shifting of hives, checking for bee diseases and the transport of hives to the factory for extraction.
